You can't think your way into a new way of living—but
you can live your way into a new way of thinking. |
Recovery from a compulsive eating disorder is not easy. Making healthy food
choices for
even one full day can feel like an almost impossible challenge to a
person affected by Binge
Eating Disorder. If it was easy, there would be very few obese people and no "diet industry" preying off of people's desperation and selling billions of dollars of
worthless scams and pills every year.
When a person with an eating disorder is supplied with the correct tools and instructions on how to best use those tools, they are positioned to begin the journey of regaining their health. Of course they still need some more basic ingredients such as an open mind, believable hope, and willingness. But
a toolkit is an indispensable part of the formula for
overcoming binge eating disorder and compulsive overeating.
Overeaters Anonymous World Services web site has a page describing Eight "Tools of Recovery" that are commonly used by OA members to help them recover from
binge eating disorders. Their list includes, A Plan of Eating, Sponsorship, Meetings, Telephone, Writing, Literature, Anonymity, and Service.
Not all members use all of these tools and some use many more. The point is to find the combination that works for you. |
